1What telehealth is
Telehealth is the delivery of healthcare using electronic communication rather than an in person visit. At Nova that means a secure intake you complete online, reviewed by a licensed clinician, and where the clinician needs it, a live video or telephone consultation.
The clinician may also review photographs, lab results and the medical history you provide.
2Who provides your care
Care prescribed online is provided by Qualiphy PC, an independent telehealth medical group. Its clinicians are physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, each licensed in the state you are physically in at the time of your visit.
The clinician who reviews your intake exercises independent clinical judgement. Nova does not direct that decision.
Online care is available in 48 states and Washington DC. It is not available in Alabama or Mississippi.
3What you are agreeing to
By continuing with a telehealth visit you consent to be evaluated and, where appropriate, treated by a licensed clinician using telehealth. You consent to the clinician reviewing the information you provide and to the secure transmission of that information between the clinician, the clinic and any pharmacy that fills a prescription for you.
4What telehealth is good for
The benefits of a telehealth visit include:
- Access to a licensed clinician without travelling to a clinic
- Appointments outside ordinary clinic hours
- A private, secure setting of your own choosing
- Faster review than waiting for an in person appointment
5Its limits and risks
Telehealth is not the same as being examined in person, and you should understand the following before you consent:
- A clinician cannot physically examine you, so some conditions cannot be assessed this way
- A judgement may be made without information that a physical examination would have revealed
- Technology can fail, and a consultation may have to be delayed, repeated or moved in person
- Despite security measures, no electronic transmission can be guaranteed against interception
- Rarely, a treatment decision may differ from one reached after an in person examination
If at any point the clinician decides telehealth is not appropriate for you, you will be told and asked to be seen in person.
6Prescriptions and the pharmacy
If a clinician determines that a prescription treatment is appropriate, the prescription is sent to a licensed pharmacy. Depending on the treatment, that is either a pharmacy you choose or a pharmacy in the telehealth platform’s vetted network, which fills the prescription and ships it to you.
Nova is not a pharmacy and does not dispense medication.
Compounded preparations are made by licensed compounding pharmacies. They are not FDA approved products and they are not generic versions of brand name drugs.
A consultation does not guarantee a prescription. If a clinician decides a treatment is not appropriate for you, you are not charged for the medication.
7Emergencies
Telehealth is not for emergencies. If you are having a medical emergency, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 for the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Nova’s clinic line, 480-307-9130, is answered during business hours only.
8Your records and your privacy
A record is kept of your telehealth visit in the same way a record is kept of an in person visit, and it is protected under applicable law, including HIPAA where it applies.
Your information is shared only with those involved in your care, such as the treating clinician and the dispensing pharmacy, or where the law requires it.
You may ask for a copy of your record. No part of a telehealth visit is recorded on video without telling you first and asking for your agreement.
Ordinary email and text are not secure medical channels. Anything clinical should go through the telehealth platform or the clinic phone line.
9Your choices
Taking part in telehealth is voluntary. You may withhold or withdraw your consent at any time without affecting your right to future care or treatment, and without losing any benefit you are otherwise entitled to.
You may ask to be seen in person instead, and you may ask that a particular person not be present during a consultation.
10No guarantee of outcome
No clinician can promise a particular result. Individual results vary, and nothing said during a telehealth visit or written on this website is a guarantee of a cure or a specific outcome.
11Your acknowledgement
By continuing with a telehealth visit you confirm that you are 18 or over, that you have read and understood this consent, that you have had the chance to ask questions, and that the information you have given about your health is complete and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
Telemedicine, Your Provider and Your Pharmacy
12 questionsWho actually sees me when I book online?
A licensed clinician from Qualiphy PC, the independent telehealth medical group Nova works with. Its clinicians are physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners. The one who reviews your intake is licensed in the state you are physically in at the time of your visit.
Is the clinician licensed in my state?
Yes. A clinician can only treat you if they hold a licence where you are at the time of the visit, which is why you are asked for your location before anything else.
Which states can I be treated in online?
48 states and Washington DC. Online care is not available in Alabama or Mississippi. In-clinic treatments are only available at the Scottsdale location.
Is the telehealth provider certified?
Qualiphy PC is LegitScript certified, which means it is independently reviewed and monitored for compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Nova holds its own LegitScript certification.
Who decides whether I get a prescription?
The treating clinician, on clinical grounds, using the intake you complete. Nova does not direct that decision and cannot overrule it. Paying for a consultation does not guarantee a prescription.
Which pharmacy fills my prescription?
A licensed pharmacy. Depending on the treatment, the prescription either goes to a pharmacy you choose or to a pharmacy in the telehealth platform’s vetted network, which fills it and ships it to you. The clinic confirms which applies when your prescription is issued.
Can I use my own pharmacy?
For treatments that are sent electronically, yes. Ask before you start your intake, because some compounded preparations are only available through the pharmacies in the platform’s network.
Is Nova the pharmacy?
No. Nova is not a pharmacy and does not compound, manufacture or dispense medication. That is done by licensed pharmacies. Compounded preparations are made by licensed compounding pharmacies. They are not FDA approved and they are not generic versions of brand name drugs.
Do I have to do a video call?
Not always. Some visits are reviewed from the intake you submit, and some need a live video or telephone consultation. The clinician decides which your treatment requires.
What happens to my medical information?
It goes to the treating clinician and, where a prescription is written, to the dispensing pharmacy. It is protected under applicable law, including HIPAA where it applies. Please keep clinical detail out of ordinary email and text, which are not secure medical channels.
What if I am not approved for treatment?
You are not charged for the medication. The clinician will explain why, and the Nova team will go through what else may suit you, including options that need no prescription at all.
Who do I call about my prescription?
Start with the clinic on 480-307-9130. If the question is one only the treating clinician can answer, the team will route it through the telehealth platform rather than guess.
Not sure about something
Ask before you start an intake rather than after. The clinic will talk it through.
