1What we are working to
Nova Health and Wellness Center builds and maintains this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Those guidelines are the standard referenced in most accessibility regulation, and they cover people who browse with a keyboard alone, with a screen reader, with magnification, or with low vision or colour vision differences.
Accessibility is treated here as ongoing work rather than a box that gets ticked once. The site changes as treatments and pricing change, and each change is checked.
2What is in place
Every page can be operated with a keyboard alone. The main menu opens from the keyboard, the Tab key moves into the open panel rather than past it, and Escape closes it and returns you to where you were. The phone menu behaves the same way. A skip link at the top of every page jumps past the navigation straight to the content.
Headings follow a real order on every page, so a screen reader can move through a page by structure, and every page has a page heading, including the cart and account pages. Each page has one banner and one footer landmark. Images carry text alternatives, and images that are purely decorative are hidden from assistive technology.
Form fields have visible labels and a visible boundary, and the field that has focus is always outlined. Fields that are required say so to assistive technology, including the birth date and birth sex fields at checkout. When something is wrong with what you typed, the message is announced as it appears and is attached to the field it belongs to, so returning to that field tells you what to fix. The card number, expiry and security code fields announce what they are. Buttons that start a consultation are named with the treatment they relate to, so five of them on one page can be told apart.
Text contrast has been measured on every page template, including text that sits over photographs, and corrected where it fell short of the standard. Pages reflow at narrow widths without sideways scrolling, and stay readable when line, letter and word spacing are increased. Introductory paragraphs on treatment pages are no longer cut off.
3Where we know it still falls short
We would rather tell you this than have you discover it.
Everything above has been checked by measurement and by keyboard. We have not yet had this site tested by a person who uses a screen reader day to day, and that is the test that matters most. It is planned, and this page will say so when it has happened.
The checkout and the payment card fields come from third party providers. We have named their fields and tested them with a keyboard, and we raise anything further with the providers.
On the homepage, the photographs behind the two “Two Ways to Care” cards show through a strong tint. On the Scottsdale card the text contrast sits just above the standard rather than comfortably above it.
4Telling us about a problem
If any part of this site gets in your way, please tell us. Call 480-307-9130 or email info@novahealthandwellnesscenter.com. It helps if you can say which page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead, including the browser or assistive technology you were using.
We aim to respond within five business days. If the fix will take longer than that, we will tell you what we are doing and offer another way to get what you needed, including booking or asking a question by phone.
5Getting help another way
Anything you can do on this site you can also do by speaking to a person. Call 480-307-9130 during clinic hours to ask about treatments, book a visit, or get help with an order. The clinic is at 7425 E. Shea Blvd, Suite 112, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.
